Women’s Life Roles – Gardening

Classtime

This week, during the Women’s Life Roles, Mrs. McNair gave a presentation on gardening. On Monday, she discussed the benefits of gardening, why knowing how to take care of a garden is important, and how this skill will be used in the Kingdom of God.

On Wednesday, the women in the Life Roles class had the opportunity to experience how fun gardening can be. Mrs. McNair first talked about houseplants and the different requirements to consider when growing them, such as the amount of light and water needed for growth. She then gave each woman a different houseplant which they would be responsible for caring for the rest of their time at LE. The students repotted them into bigger containers, and some enjoyed giving their plants fun names.

Sunday Activity

The following Sunday at the women’s dorm, the students were placed in groups, and each group was assigned to a planting box. The groups were given lettuce and pansy plants to put into the soil of their respective planting box. The women then moved to the front yard of the dorm and began weeding the garden beds, planting some ornamental cabbage, and replanting the big pots at the entrance. The women worked hard to revitalize the front yard with some heavy yard work.

This series of classes on gardening has given the women the confidence to believe they can take care of plants, and they also have a deeper appreciation for the importance of plants in our lives.
